Gómez grew up in Unlingen, a town in Upper Swabia, and is of German-Spanish descent (his father is Spanish from Granada and his mother is German). Both nationalities, but decided to play for the German national team when he was 17. Should Gomez think gay players are coming out thinking they were "playing like they've been freed".
