Jesus Navas

 

Soccer zone | Jesus Navas | Navas impressed again in 2005/06 and was a crucial element in Andalusia's first-ever UEFA Cup win. He appeared in all 12 games including the final against Middlesbrough. In August 2006, an agreement was reached on Navas' transfer to Chelsea, but the player refused the move, citing possible longing. In the league, Navas consistently ranked among the best. Player included in Don Balon magazine's “Top 50” every year since 2005. For the next three seasons, Navas remained a regular for Sevilla, consistently the club's top assist provider, scoring nine league goals.It also helped him reach the 2007/08 national cup and finish third in the league the following season.

After rising to Sevilla's first team, Navas made his U-21 debut in September 2004. On November 9, 2009, Navas was called up by coach Vicente del Bosque for friendlies against Argentina and Austria. Called up by coach Vicente del Bosque for the finals of the World Cup in South Africa, Navas scored his first international goal on 3 June 2010 in a friendly against South Korea, scoring the only goal of the game against four minutes left. During the tournament he played in three games, including 30 minutes plus extra time in the final against the Netherlands (1-0) as Spain lifted their first World Cup trophy.

Navas' older brother Marco is also a soccer player and midfielder. Having also graduated from Seville's academy, he made three first-team appearances but mostly played in the second division. Navas initially refused to travel to the United States during pre-season with Sevilla due to acute homesickness, then decided to travel to cure himself of the illness.
