Ecuadorian Valencia made his debut in 2005 and scored two goals. Luis Antonio Valencia Mosquera, the Ecuadorian soccer player who currently plays for Manchester United and his Ecuadorian team. Wigan then signed a three-year deal with Valencia in January 2008 for an undisclosed fee. Early Life

Valencia helped her mother sell drinks outside their local club's stadium in Lago Agrio, then looked for empty bottles for her father to sell at a bottle depot in the capital, Quito. When Valencia was 11 years old, scout Pedro 'Papi' Perlaza saw him play on a dusty pitch near his home and signed him for the local FA sports academy in Sucumbíos.

Club career


Early career


Valencia started his career at El Nacional and within a year he was on the fast track to the Sub 20, where he played alongside striker Christian "Chucho" 'Benítez and scored 20 goals in 84 games. Valencia debuted together with El Nacional to his idol Edison Méndez. Valencia joined Spanish club Villarreal in 2005. Recreativo helped Valencia advance to La Liga as they finished the season at the top of the table.

Wigan Athletic

On August 3, 2006, Valencia joined Wigan Athletic of the English Premier League, initially on a one-year loan. Valencia finished their first season with one goal, one assist and one red card in their 22 appearances.



Valencia scored their first goal of the 2007/08 season in a 2-0 win against Derby County on 23 February before scoring a brace with his first Wigan in a 2-0 win against Aston Town on 3 May. the season with three goals and three assists in 32 games in all competitions.


Valencia's first goal of the season came after Wigan beat Hull City 5-0 away on 30 August. Valencia scored their final goal for Wigan on 13 December, inspiring them to a 3–0 win over Blackburn Rovers. Wigan manager Steve Bruce confirmed that Valencia had turned down the opportunity to join Real Madrid in January 2009. Valencia scored 7 goals in 89 games during his time at Wigan.



Manchester United

On 30 June 2009, Valencia became Manchester United's first summer signing after he cut short his holiday to undergo a medical at the club. He made his United debut on 29 July, scoring his first goal and his second in a 2-1 preseason win over Boca Juniors in the Audi Cup.


On 17 October he scored his first official goal for the club and scored United's second goal in their 2-1 league win over Bolton Wanderers. His first UEFA Champions League four days later. Ecuador team
On 27 March 2005, Valencia played their first international match for Ecuador, scoring their first two international goals in a 5-2 World Cup qualifier win over Paraguay. Personal Life
Valencia and his wife Zoila have a daughter named Domenica who was born during the 2006 World Cup final. Along with former Wigan team-mates Maynor Figueroa and Wilson Palacios, Valencia began taking English classes (although Valencia still need an interpreter). . Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson described Valencia as a quiet and shy boy. His older brother Eder is also a professional soccer player and plays for Independiente José Terán in Ecuador.
